The Lean Manufacturing Overview module teaches the basics of a Lean Manufacturing system. The overview provides instruction on the goal of Lean Manufacturing to reduce all waste in the system and add value from the customer’s perception.

The overview discusses the modules taught in the course and the eight types of waste which occur in all processes. The eight wastes are discussed briefly in the overview because it is the one discipline that is involved in every module.

The lean manufacturing overview sets the stage for the rest of the course. Having the overview enables the student of the course to relate the course objectives to their own manufacturing or service situation.
